Why are stories important to humans
It boosts our feelings of things like trust, compassion, and empathy. We are wired that way.Listening to each other tell our stories builds empathy, forges trust, and creates deeper connections. Here's why i think people who love data and analytics also need to be people who love stories and tell them well:We think in narratives all.
They also have several other underlying benefits like developing language skills, creativity, thinking process etc.Stories are magic, they can create other worlds, emotions, ideas and make the everyday seem incredible. Those that involve data and analysis are just relatively recent versions of them.Stories preserve culture and pass on cultural knowledge from one generation to another. And that is exactly how we think.
But the emerging science of story suggests that fiction is good for more than kicks.Language helps us understand ourselves and make sense of the world. If you look at why storytelling is so important in 2019 and beyond, revisit slavery, when it was forbidden in policy and practice for blacks to read or write. When we hear a story that resonates with us, our levels of a hormone called oxytocin increase.Whether you read about a specific craft or skill to boost it or you are reading randomly for fun, the words could spark new ideas or images in your mind.
Oxytocin is a feel good hormone.
